Alec: I love you. I love you. You love me too. It's no use pretending it hasn't happened because it has.
Laura: Yes it has. I don't want to pretend anything either to you or to anyone else. But from now on, I shall have to.
Set in the refreshment room of Milford Junction railway station we see a chance encounter between Alec and Laura,
as he removes a piece of grit from her eye, develop against the backdrop of interwar Britain.
Both separately married, we see a growing love struggle against the middle-class restraint of the duty-bound
Alec and Laura. A colourful array of supporting characters each try their own hand at romance, with varying results!
This short play was developed into the Classic film Brief Encounter directed by David Lean starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard.
